No one got it (or if someone did, they didn't tell me about it.) I thought someone might figure it out; mostly I wanted the effect to be accomplished without a frame first because I hate things that have to have a frame to work properly.
If you didn't get it, here's a hint. Hopefully the seven stories slip into place...

The seven dwarves? It seems to be the obvious answer with the video now...
Now I find myself thinking, "Of course! Why didn't I get that?" I'm going to blame it on the fact that I've had houseguests for two weeks and am absolutely fried.
It's also quite hard to come at things like that from the other direction; I didn't give a whole lot of clues, after all. It could have been anything from a sequence of letters to the chapter headings in a Jules Verne novel for all you guys knew. ;-)
