I've got a great honking brick of a book here in front of me: the first yearly collection of Daily Science Fiction. Over 850 pages of speculative fiction; 260 separate stories.
And two of them feature my fifth or sixth favorite author: Me! Also Ken Liu, Cat Rambo, Tim Pratt, Lavie Tidhar... There's some good stuff in here, is my point.

China Mieville's "The City and the City" was the best novel I've read in years. As soon as I finished it, I started it over again.
the one book in two books Blackout and All Clear by Connie Willis although it took a long time for me to go from this is okay to can't wait to see what happens next during the first book.
I might change that to Broken Escalator by Christopher Monroe because after listening to podiobook plan on gifting an ebook but mostly just in case Munsi isn't kidding about having me watched.
"Ready Player One"
I finally got around to reading Orson Scott Card's Xenocide earlier this year, and it blew my mind. I love the Ender series & am stoked for the movie!
One of the best books and only new book I read worth recommending, was Damned by Chuck Palahinuk.
It's Dante's Inferno for a new generation, focusing on 13 year old Madison.
Descriptions of Hell, How she got there etc., all in the tradition of great books by Palahinuk such as Fight Club, Choke, Lullaby, and Diary.
oh! and in addition to expressing enthusiasm: best book i read this year was probably Soft Apocalypse, by Will McIntosh. Stunning little slice of dystopia...
